Unlike steel knives, ceramic blades will not transfer metal ions to food, nor corrode from acids or oils in fruits and vegetables. Ceramic will never rust. At half the weight of and equivalent steel knife, a ceramic knife becomes a comfortable extension of the hand, reducing fatigue during long, repetitive cutting tasks.

The blade of the knife is made of advanced zirconia , Zirconia is an oxide of the metallic element zirconium ,ZrO2 . Each zirconium atom is surrounded by eight oxygen atoms and each oxygen atom is connected to four zirconium atoms. Zirconium was discovered in 1789 by Martin Klaproth working in Berlin and the pure metal obtained by Berzelius in 1824 in Stockholm. It is well known as a substitute for diamond, due to its high hardness and great fire. The hardness of it is about 8.2mohs ( the steel is 5-6 mohs and diamond is 10mohs), only second to diamond.
