Why I Have Seen Some Products On Other Web Sites But Not On This Site?

This site has a lot of External Links to Manufacturers Web Sites. They are mainly located in the USA or in Taiwan, or within Australia. This can be distinguished when you point to a hyper linked item ( model number etc..), the status bar will show the link location. You may have seen some of the products, especially brand new products that are selling in the USA / Taiwan, but not available in Australia. There are 2 (maybe more) reasons. First the manufacturers market in the USA / Taiwan / Japan first before marketing in other counties. Australia is getting those new products 2-3 months later than the USA. Second, some products are not suitable for use in Australia, so they will not be imported, especially NTSC format TV out products.

What If I Ordered Some Products But I Did Not Go To Pick Them Up?

For a C.O.D. order, we do not charge customers before they have received the goods. When customers order some products and then they do not go to pick the products up, it costs us double for the goods to be sent back to us. We will list these customers in our records for future reference. Also we will pass these records to other mail order companies when requested.

Why I Replace a New Video Card and Get Blank Screen or Cross Lines on Screen

After you get a new video card, you install it and load the drivers. When windows starts up, you cannot see anything or you just get lines across the screen. What is wrong? You know your computer is working. This symptom usually happens when you put in a 4 MB or 8 MB video card, especially video cards from Diamond. In Win 95/98, the default refresh rate will be set higher than your monitor can handle. If you put your old video card back in to your computer, it works well. So you need to change your monitor to standard SVGA 800x600, or 640x480, change your resolution to 640x480, set the fresh rate to 60Hz, then shut down the computer and replace the new video card. After re-booting, install the new video card according to the instructions.

How Do I Know I'm Seeing The Latest Information From This Website

This Website is updated on a daily basis, sometimes it may be updated 2 -3 times per day. For 60% of net users viewing this website, they will not see the latest updated pages due since the browser is reading from the HDD's cache, or their ISP server's cache. To make sure you are reading the latest pages, when you come to the first page http://www.computermarket.com.au or the redirect URL which is http://start.at/pc you need to press the reload or refresh button on your browser / viewer. This page has the date and time and shows the last updated time. If the time shown on that page is longer than 48 hours, you may only be reading your HDD or ISP's cache. Please try to press reload or refresh again to see any changes at the time.

Each product page has the revised date (it looks like "Revised: 24, May, 1998") at the end of that page.

Also the latest news page has the last updated time which tells you when the page has been updated.

OEM Pack (Trade Pack) Vs. Retail Pack

OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) products are mainly used by computer manufacturers and dealers to bundle with complete systems. In most cases, they have no (colored and eye-catching) retail packaging. Often OEM products are packed in bulk with no individual box for each product. However, there should be absolutely no difference in the performance and specifications of the products themselves. The products in OEM packs and those in retail packs are usually identical - only the packaging, and sometimes the inclusions are different. (For more information, check with the product manufacturer or Computer Market). As mentioned, OEM packs may also not have the extras (software, games or cables etc.) that are often bundled with a retail pack. Manuals may be not included or there may be less of them than with a retail pack. If you are buying parts to build your own system, OEM parts can save you a lot of money. (Especially when you know what you are doing and you don't need step by step instructions like "open the computer", "find a free PCI slot" etc.)

How Can I Tell if a CPU Has Been Re-Marked ?

Before 1998, INTEL used 2 different types of material to package the CPU silicon chip itself - ceramic & plastic. (Note that the term "packaging" here refers to the stuff thats outside of what the actual CPU is made of - not the "bubble" boxes etc. that are placed in for shipment). From 1998 on, they have not used ceramic packaging for the 200 MHz or the 233 MHz MMX CPUs - only plastic packaging. They only used ceramic packaging for the 166MHz MMX.

Re-Marked CPU Vs. Retail Pack CPU

In 1997, one Australian computer magazine reported that 80% of PENTIUM computer systems sold on the street used re-marked CPUs! In early 1998, another report claimed that 90% of PENTIUM computer systems sold on the street contained re-marked CPUs! Re-marked CPUs are forced to run at speeds higher than they were designed for. (so-called "over-clocking"). The marking on the chips are altered to disguise this. CPU BUYER BEWARE: There are a lot of re-marked (over clocked) CPUs on the market. If you are buying an OEM pack CPU, there is NO SURE WAY YOU CAN TELL WHETHER IT HAS BEEN RE-MARKED! You are taking a risk.

What is Dual Speed / Switch HUB?

  1. 10/100 dual speed hub:
Only have total of 100 Mbps bandwidth speed to share with all the ports in use, e.g. if you have a 8 port dual speed hub, and you are using 5 port at the same time, each port will have 5/100 = 20 Mbps bandwidth, you wouldn't get 100 Mbps on one port.

  2. 10/100 switch hub:
You have full 100Mps speed on each of the port and no ports will have reduced speed if the devices you are connected to are running 100Mbps. If the port connected with 10Mbps only, then this port's speed will drop down to 10Mbps but the rest of the ports still work on 100Mbps.
